A Tribute to Pauline Corlett (1956-2025) – Methodist Local Preacher

It was with sadness that, just before Christmas, folk in the Isle of Man District learned of the passing of Pauline Corlett (on 21st December) or, as Pauline would have put it, her promotion to glory, remembering her Salvation Army connections.

Pauline was a larger than life character and well known throughout the District as a very enthusiastic, able and popular Local Preacher. She was fully accredited in 2022, after worrying for some time about her ability to rise to the challenge. She need not have worried. She has been in demand constantly for conducting “specials” such as Harvest, Carols, Plough Sunday, Chapel and Sunday School Anniversaries – whatever. Pauline took them in her stride and adding her infectious humour and an authentic Manx flavour. She had a really unique way of engaging with all kinds of congregations, and like anything she took on board, Pauline was always committed 110%. She also held the role of church steward at both Trinity and Onchan churches at different times, ensuring that all attending received a warm welcome.

Pauline was an excellent cook, having trained under several well known celebrities and her cakes were legendary, although not good for calorie counters! In former years she had a small catering business and, after having married Gary, she helped him in the family jewellery business. The shop in Castle Street, Douglas, was the oldest retail outlet in the Island’s capital, dating from the early 19th Century.

Pauline was also associated with the local Salvation Army corps and attended Bible Study there. The Captain read a eulogy at Pauline’s funeral, which took place at Trinity Methodist Church on the 15th January 2026, attended by well-over 300 people. Pauline leaves behind her husband Gary and daughter Ealish and many, many friends. She will be sorely missed but we rejoice that she will be an asset to the Kingdom of Heaven and if the Lord has any tasks in line for her there, He may rest assured that Pauline will go to them with 110% commitment, endeavour and hard graft!
