Ruth Keggin-Gell, Manx Language Development Officer for Culture Vannin,is hosting two workshops on Saturday 25th October, entitled 'Cree asAnnym' (Heart and Soul).
The workshops are suitable for absolute beginners with no experience ofManx. All are very welcome!
Ruth will teach a workshop exploring liturgical phrases, prayers, blessings, and some conversational Manx. Whether you're a member of the clergy, a church welcomer, attend a bible group, or just want to learn some Manx for your own personal worship, you are very welcome to come! This will be the fourth time that this workshop has been run, and since it was established we have seen increased use of Manx in some of the churches in the Isle of Man as a result of the previous three workshops(which we are delighted about!)
Stay on for a soup lunch OR buffet lunch (option will be dependent on numbers), giving the opportunity to practise a little more Manx.
Workshop is free, but the cost of lunch is £8 per person – to Thie dy Vea. Please notify Ruth upon booking if you would like to stay for lunch.
Ruth will lead a two-hour workshop from 2pm – 4pm teaching a range of simple Taizé chants in Manx Gaelic. There will be a break in the middle of the session for tea, coffee and biscuits. If you haven't come across Taizé chants before, they're very beautiful, mindful and use lots of
repetition so are extremely easy to pick up. Ruth will be teaching by ear as much as possible for this workshop. These Taizé chants are brilliant to use during Lent, or at any other time of the year.
Both workshops are free to attend (although donations to cover refreshments (teas, coffees and biscuits) during the sessions would be gratefully received by Thie dy Vea), but booking is essential. To bookyour place on a workshop, please phone : 01624 694753 or email:manxlanguage@culturevannin.im
